Who Needs This

One Document.

Many Critical Use Cases

A death certificate records a registered death and may be needed for estate, financial or administrative matters. Each authority or institution determines the evidence required for its procedure.

Inheritance & Succession Proceedings

A death certificate may be required in an estate or succession matter. Court proceedings, legal advice and a new succession certificate require a separate professional engagement, scope and fees; they are not included in certificate retrieval.

Legal Heir Certificate Applications

The relevant state authority sets the supporting documents for a legal heir certificate. If both records are needed, we assess feasibility and sequencing separately; one procedure may depend on the other.

Property Mutation

A revenue authority may require a death record and other succession or title evidence for a mutation request. The certificate alone does not establish title or determine entitlement.

Bank Account Closure & Transfer

The bank determines the death, identity, nomination and succession evidence required for the particular claim. Confirm its checklist before ordering documents.

Provident Fund & Insurance Claims

The relevant fund, insurer or pension provider sets the documents and claimant requirements for a death-related claim. A death certificate may be part of that evidence.

NRI Account & Status Updates

A receiving institution may require a death record when a nominee, account mandate or dependent’s circumstances change. Requirements depend on the particular transaction or application.

The Process

Six Steps. Fully Managed.
No Guesswork.

Step by Step

How LexBridge8 Obtains Your India Death Certificate

India-side coordination is led by Ujjwal Singh, a licensed Advocate, with administrative, authorized local professional and logistics support arranged for the agreed scope. We confirm which tasks may be performed by a representative. Applicant-only steps and personal attendance requirements remain with the applicant.

Step 01

Intake and Jurisdiction Assessment

You submit the deceased’s details. Their full name, date of death, place of death, and district through our intake form. Our team identifies the correct civil registrar or municipal corporation responsible for that locality and assesses any state-specific procedural requirements.

Step 02

Quotation and Formal Case Opening

We issue a written quotation separating the Base Service Fee from estimated Actual Costs. The case is formally opened after feasibility, jurisdiction, the permitted application route, required documents, identity checks, accepted authorization and the agreed initial payment are confirmed. We confirm the opening date and a case-specific estimate in writing. Authority processing and issuance are not guaranteed.

Step 03

Permitted Application Support

Our Advocate visits the competent civil registration authority in India, submits the formal death certificate application with supporting documents, pays all official government fees on your behalf, and manages any follow-up correspondence with the issuing office.

Step 04

Retrieval and Quality Verification

Upon issuance, the death certificate is physically retrieved and inspected for accuracy — the deceased’s full name, date of death, and place of death are verified before the document is scanned and shared with you for confirmation.

Step 05

Evidence Sharing and Progress Updates

We provide milestone updates and share available supporting records, document scans and dispatch tracking through the communication channel agreed for your case, where applicable and available.

Step 06

International Dispatch via DHL and Case Closure

Tracked delivery through DHL or EMS may be arranged according to your preference, destination and availability. Shipping and any agreed additional cover are quoted at actual cost. Carrier terms, transit, customs and destination restrictions apply; government processing and delivery time are separate.

Indicative Processing Time

2–6 Weeks

from Case Opening

Where the death was formally registered, we assess the route for obtaining the existing record. Missing records, corrections and delayed registration require a separate authority-specific assessment.

Before formal case opening, we confirm feasibility, jurisdiction, the permitted route, required documents, identity checks, accepted authorization and any personal steps. You sign the Engagement Agreement first and then pay the agreed initial amount. SHERYLUX8 opens the case only after confirming receipt. We confirm the opening date and case-specific estimate in writing; government and other external processing times are not guaranteed.

Tell us your deadline before accepting the quotation. Any feasible priority coordination and its fee are agreed in writing. LexBridge8 cannot guarantee expedited government processing or issuance.

Factors That May Affect Timeline

01.

State and district of registration

Urban registrar offices in major cities typically process faster than rural district offices

02.

Whether the death was formally registered at the time of occurrence

Delayed registration cases require additional procedures and a Complex Case assessment

03.

Completeness and accuracy of submitted details

The deceased's full name, date of death, and place of death must align with registry records

04.

Authority backlogs and public holidays

Government office closures and processing backlogs vary by state and season

05.

Courier transit

Delivery estimates depend on the chosen carrier, destination and customs. Transit is separate from authority processing and is confirmed for your case.

How do I get an Indian death certificate while living abroad when I cannot travel to India?

We can assist with preparation, record searches and coordination where the authority permits representation. The applicant may still need to apply, provide consent, attend or complete verification personally. We confirm the applicable requirements before case opening; an authorization letter or Power of Attorney does not override them.

For eligible standard retrieval cases, 2–6 weeks may be an indicative estimate after formal case opening. Actual timing depends on the document, jurisdiction, existing records, authority workload and any additional checks or corrections. Complex cases need a separate assessment. We provide milestone updates; government issuance dates cannot be guaranteed. Courier transit is estimated separately.

A death certificate may form part of the evidence requested for legal heir, estate, bank or property procedures. Each process has its own eligibility and supporting documents. Retrieval of an existing record is separate from legal advice, contested matters and a new court proceeding; any such professional work needs a separate written engagement and fees.

Ask the receiving institution which document, translation, authentication or apostille it requires. These are separate steps and do not guarantee acceptance. For eligible India-issued documents, any Indian authentication route is assessed against current Ministry of External Affairs requirements and quoted separately. Japan MOFA does not apostille India-issued documents.

Delayed registration is separate from copy retrieval or NABC. As of 23 September 2026, the 2023 framework for delays exceeding one year uses the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate or an Executive Magistrate authorized by the District Magistrate.

From 1 October 2026, the 2026 amendment distinguishes delays exceeding one year but within two years (the specified District/Sub-Divisional/authorized Executive Magistrate route) from delays exceeding two years (an order of a Judicial Magistrate of the first class). Verification, prescribed fees and local implementation apply. Confirm the route for the actual application date and any transitional treatment before accepting the case.

References: 2026 Amendment Act and commencement notification. Issuance is not guaranteed; NABC is not a universal prerequisite.

Public pricing is in USD. Currency conversion and any transfer charges are determined by your payment provider.

Complex Case / Required Appearance Professional Handling Fee

From USD 300 additional

This policy applies to every service, in addition to its unchanged Base Service Fee, where an SDM or court-issued route, hearing, interview, personal or professional appearance, complex multi-authority coordination or work beyond the agreed Standard Scope is required. The case-specific additional fee is quoted and agreed before the additional work begins. Government, court, filing, travel, courier and other third-party expenses remain separate Actual Costs.

LexBridge8 is not a law firm or court representative. Any legal representation, court attendance or professional appearance is carried out by a separately engaged Advocate or an appropriately qualified or authorised professional.

Actual Costs and supporting records

Actual Costs are charged based on the amount actually incurred and are itemised separately. Where formal receipts, invoices, payment confirmations, or other supporting records are issued or available, they may be provided. Where such documentation is not customarily issued, LexBridge8 will provide a reasonable written breakdown of the expense.

Any separate professional or service fee is identified separately from third-party Actual Costs.
